45% Of Travelers Don’t Check On Their Homes While On Vacation!
It’s a well-known saying that “while the cat’s away the mice will play,” but for some reason the threat of burglary is not keeping a large percentage of travellers from protecting themselves with home security systems!
According to our national survey, 45% of travellers don’t check in on their homes at all while on vacation. Though it’s often claimed that we millenials lack the future-planning skills our parents had when they were our age, our data actually shows that 94% of millenials say they check their home or apartment at least once a day while on vacation, while the majority of boomers report not checking in on their homes at all!
Vacation season is one of the most dangerous seasons per year for homeowners, as summer is when home burglaries reach an all-time high each year, according to the FBI.
As we’ve stated on this blog before, there are many obvious signs that tell a burglar when a home is vacant. The most popular one they use to decide whether or not to target a home is lighting cues.
Whether you choose to permanently leave your lights on or off, the wrong sorts of people can easily take note and determine that the lack of variance is a sign of vacancy. June is National Safety Month, so please make sure to take this time to do as much research as possible on ways to protect your household.
Many people would be surprised to learn that you don’t have to be home in order to turn your lights on, off, or even dim them. Thanks to the IoT, it’s possible to keep your home secure remotely.
Take our Piper z-wave accessories, for example. Piper users have the ability to pair their security systems with smart switches and smart dimmers, and to use them to turn their lights on, off, or even dim them from anywhere in the world.
Pretty cool, right?
Home security doesn’t have to be expensive, or even complicated. When you secure your home with Piper, setup is a breeze, taking most users 10 minutes or less to complete. All you have to do is choose where you’d like to place your Piper, connect it to the Internet, name it, and voila- you’re up and running.
Security can even go beyond our camera to include the z-wave technologies we’re compatible with, such as door/window sensors, smart switches, range extenders, and more.
