Sheriff Reveals Things Burglars Look For When Targeting Homes
When it comes to finding out the kind of thought process that goes on in a burglar’s mind, there are few people better equipped to help you than members of law enforcement (unless of course you are hanging out with burglars yourself…which we hope you’re not).
In an interview with Orlando Florida’s WKMG show, Kristen Bentsen, Sheriff of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, revealed that lights are one of the biggest decision elements for whether or not a burglar would choose to target your home.
“Lighting is crucial.” Bensten said in the interview, “If they go past a house in the evening that’s not well-lit, that may be more of a target than a home that is lit very well.”
Getting your family and neighbours to pick up your newspapers and mow your lawn is simple enough, but trusting others with the keys to your home is a whole nother story. That’s why Piper uses z-wave technology to connect all aspects of your life.
When you’re spending time away from home, the z-wave smart switches and smart LED bulbs Piper supports can be set up to remotely turn your lights and appliances on and off with just the click of a button. If your time away from home is expected to be especially busy, there’s also the option of pre-timing when you’d like the smart switches to work with Piper to keep your home secure and get that burglar target off your back.
